NEET (UG)-2013
What is NEET (UG)?
NEET has been proposed by Ministry
of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt, of India and Medical Council
of India (MCI) for Undergraduate (NEET-UG)
Medical Courses like MBBS, BDS etc. and Post Graduate (NEET-PG) Medical Courses
like M.S., M.D. etc. NEET-UG will be the common entrance test for MBBS
course across the country for almost all government and private medical
Colleges/Universities. NEET will be conducted
by CBSE. A total of 271 MBBS colleges (138 Govt. colleges + 133 Private colleges)
have been listed by MCI, which will fall under the aegis of NEET
2013. These colleges shall offer a total of 31,000 MBBS seats across India. The notified syllabus
for NEET- UG has been achieved after review of various State syllabi as well as those prepared by CBSE, NCERT and COBSE. A minimum
estimate is that 8 Lac plus students may appear in the first NEET to be held in May,
2013. The maximum figures could be somewhere between 10 - 11 Lac students.
Benefits of NEET:
1.
No need to apply for several
entrance examinations.
2.
The students will be free and relaxed after appearing in
only one exam.
3.
NEET is
the one common examination for
admission into almost all of the MBBS colleges in India.
4.
Stress-level
will be considerably reduced which
otherwise used to be there due to various entrance examinations (such 25 different Medical entrance exams)
spread over a period of three months (April-May-June).
5.
It will decrease stress among
students to preparing for different syllabi and patterns of multiple exams.
6.
The new syllabus will establish uniformity across the
country keeping in view the relevance of different areas in medical education.
7.
The notified syllabus for NEET- UG has been achieved after review of various State syllabi as
well as those prepared by CBSE, NCERT
and COBSE. Since it is a single medical entrance system for around
31,000 medical seats, the consistent of quality and implementation of
error-free system is highly appreciable.
8.

NEET will also avoid unnecessary
wastage of time, effort and money.

Since the admission criteria does
not include Board marks (apart from minimum eligibility), a student must prepare in a focused manner for
NEET.

Note:
In addition to examination fee, service/processing charges will also be paid by
the candidate for online payment of fee through Debit / Credit Card/ Challan
along with Service Tax as applicable. Claims for refund of application fee will
not be entertained. Remote areas are Mizoram,
Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Lahaul, Spiti
District and Pangi sub-division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman
& Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.

Exam Pattern of NEET (UG)-2013:
1. NEET (UG)
Entrance Examination shall consist of one paper containing 180 objective type questions from Physics, Chemistry, Botany and
Zoology.
2. The duration of
paper would be 3 hours (180 Minutes) from 10:00 am to 01:00 pm.
3. Questions are of
four options with single correct answer.
4. Each item
carries 4 marks.
5. For each correct
response the candidate will get 4 marks.
6. For each
incorrect response one (1) mark will
be deducted from the total score i.e., 1/4th negative marking.
7. No deduction
from the total score will, however, be made if no response is indicated for an
item in the answer sheet.
8. The candidates
are advised not to attempt such item in answer sheet, if they are not sure of
the correct response. More than one
answer indicated a question will be deemed as incorrect response and will be
negatively marked.
9. All candidates
can opt for Question Paper either in English
or in Hindi along with Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati
and Bengali as optional for respective states students.
Eligibility Criteria
for NEET:
Age
limit:
- Minimum she/he has completed 17
years at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before
31st December of the year of his/her admission to the MBBS
course and is an Indian National.
- The upper age limit for NEET
is 25 years as on 31st
December and this upper age limit shall be relaxed by a period of 5 years
for SC/ST/OBC category.
- Overseas Citizen of India
(OCI) and Foreign Nationals are eligible for NEET subject to rules &
regulations framed by the respective Sate Governments and Govt. of India.
XII
Academic Eligibility (Minimum percentage):
- 50% marks for General
category, 45% marks for Gen-PH and 40% marks for SC/ST/OBC or SC/ST/OBC-PH category
students obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology taken
together in qualifying examinations.
- Students must pass Physics,
Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (including practical test) or any other
elective subject with English.
Entrance
Qualifying Criteria (Minimum percentile):
i.
Qualifying criterion has been
changed from 50% of absolute marks in NEET to 50th percentile for GC, 45th
percentile for GC-PH, 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC students
in NEET to ensure that no seat remains unfilled.
ii.
The percentile shall be determined
on the basis of highest marks secured in All
India common merit list in NEET for admission to MBBS course.
No
state eligibility criteria
will be applicable the students who take admission under 15% All India
Quota Scheme.
Number of Attempts: A maximum of three attempts.
Calculation of
Percentile:
Percentile will be calculated based on rank of the student in his/her board. If someone has secured Rank 3 in XII board exams and had 10000 students appearing for the exam. Then the percentile would be {(10000-3)/10000] x 100] = 99.97

Merit List & Rankings
of NEET:
NEET body shall provide National as well as State level ranking or
merit list will be prepared for all the appearing candidates. Rank Usage
for NEET qualified students as-
a.
National
Rank: A student can use National Rank to
take admission in any of the NEET affiliated MBBS colleges in India.
b.
State Rank: A student can use State Rank to take admission in any of
the affiliated colleges in the state from here he/she has done class XI &
XII or holds a domicile.
c.
The NEET guidelines require that 85 per cent of the MBBS seats in
the medical colleges across the state be reserved under the state quota. The
remaining 15 per cent remain open to candidates from other states.
Reservation Policy in
NEET-2013:
Reservation of Seats in Medical Colleges under 15% All India
Quotas:
a.
15% seats
are reserved for SC candidates.
b.
7.5% seats
are reserved for ST candidates.
c.
27% seats
are reserved for non-creamy layer OBC candidates.
d.
3% seats
are reserved for PH candidates
Reservation of Seats in Medical Colleges under State Quotas
and Private Colleges:
Admission under 85% state quota
seats in Govt. medical colleges shall be subject to reservation policy and
eligibility criteria prevailing in the State/Union Territory as notified by the
respective State/UT from time to time.

2200 point reservation roster. The mode of implementation of reservation will
be available on DGHS website: www.mohfw.nic.in.
Admission to AFMC,
Pune through NEET-UG Rank:
Admission
to AFMC, Pune shall be subject to the norms prescribed by the Directorate of
Armed Force Medical Service, Ministry of Defence, Government of India in
addition to the NEET-UG Rank.
State Code of
Eligibility of NEET:
Candidates may choose State Code(s)
on the basis of his/her eligibility to claim seats under State Quota in any
State. Candidate’s rank in the merit list for 85% State Quota seats will be
generated on the basis of the State Code of Eligibility filled in by the
Candidates in the application form.
To whom will replace
the NEET?
NEET shall
replace All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT
– the national level medical entrance test for MBBS courses), which till 2012
will be used for admissions into 15% seats of all government medical colleges
except that of in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. It shall replace all individual MBBS entrance
exams, which are being organized individually by state or colleges themselves
(e.g. AFMC, OJEE, EAMCET, Delhi-PMT,
UP-CPMT, U-PMT, R-PMT, HR-PMT, MP-PMT, HP-CPMT, CG-PMT, BCECEB, JCECE, WBJEE
and JKCET etc.)
When to Start
Preparing for NEET?
It is expected that a student should
start preparing in the beginning of
Class-XI and continue till Class-XII (for two years). Since, there will
be stiff competition for
admission in good institutions
like AFMC, MAMC, JIPMER (to secure top ranks in NEET); many students may even
start preparing right from Class-IX and X to Class-XII. Since the admission
criteria does not include Board marks (apart from minimum eligibility), a
student must prepare in a focused manner
for NEET, from a reputed national level
coaching institute.
What is the Role of

Since, NEET is going to be a

Earlier Motions against
NEET:
Among the states that were against
the introduction of NEET in 2012 included West Bengal, Maharashtra, Assam,
Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Gujarat and Goa had showed readiness to
join NEET from 2013-14. Andhra Pradesh had sought exemption for two years,
saying it would join from 2014-15.
