TIPS for Medical (AIPMT) / Engineering (JEE) Apirants

Last Minutes Tips

Countdown for Medical / Engineering is on, so, it is important to look at the best approach to tackle the exhaustive syllabus before the exam. The persistent preparation of a year or two for AIPMT/JEE comes to naught in the last 3 critical hours of the examination, if your last minute preparation strategy is not inclined properly. A student’s mental composure and his/her confidence level at the last minute preparation make a big difference in overall performance. Therefore, it is very crucial for all the aspirants to control their nerves and remain focused during these days.

A day before the exam, you ought to be relaxed without being worried about the exam blues. A moderate evening walk and a sound sleep at the previous night for at least 6 hours can do wonders in improving your concentration level in the examination hall. You must take light breakfast on the day of examination and report the examination centre half an hour earlier. Never forget to carry drinking water bottle and drink as much water as you can, as this will flush toxins from your body and keep you all charged up with positive energies.

You must be cautious and avoid all sorts of rigorous physical or outdoor activities when the examination is close at hand; otherwise, it might risk your health, making the examination a dull exercise. Students must be careful in the selection of foods and in maintaining hygiene so as to be in good health to maximize the chances of success. They should try to make topic-wise mind maps and increase the frequency of revision in all the portions of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics.

Maintaining high level of concentration during the examination is the prerequisite to come off with flying colors. While solving problems, students should be patient rather than making hurry. In case of difficult questions, don’t get nervous but maintain your calm. Read every question carefully and avoid blind guess because there is negative marking that not only reduce the chances of selection but also pull the rank down. So, it is wise to follow the “thumb rule” of focusing more on accuracy rather than attempting maximum number of questions.

AIPMT/JEE like other competitive exams, is a time bound exam. This, however, does not mean that students should start solving the question paper quickly without going through it properly. Keeping time management in mind, students should start solving the problems with moderate speed; once they get the rhythm, they can increase their speed accordingly. In other words, they need to move themselves out of inertia and start rolling. Once you are rolling, you’ll be able to solve even difficult problems with the acquired momentum.

To gain the momentum while solving problems, it is better to attempt questions from your favourite subject first which will certainly help you in rolling forward. Mark the questions (on your question paper) which seem easy at prima-facie and attempt these questions first.

No need to hang on a single question for more than 5 minutes, else you can move on to next. After all, it is an examination and your aim should be to score high by dividing your time judiciously and intelligently. I would suggest you to attempt as many conceptual questions as you can, since these are relatively scoring. For comprehension related questions, read them carefully because these can be answered quickly and correctly. If a question involves a general case, then solve it for a particular case to eliminate some of the choices given in the question.

According to the pattern of the questions, you may opt for your favourite section/portion of the paper as per your convenience. Try to cross-check the answers by putting values in the equation(s) given. During the course of preparation, you must have a revision plan which should be interlinked topic-wise and concept-wise. You can reinforce your memory by revision at regular intervals.

While doing the rough work for solving questions, you must do it as neatly as possible, as this helps in revising the attempted questions. It might sound trivial but it really helps; in fact, these little things if taken into account can add much in your score. It is quite possible that you may finish your favorite subject much before thereby devoting that surplus time on other areas which usually take more time. This will help multiply your score at the end. You must plan your time in such a manner that at the end you are left with 20-30 minutes which you can use for revision and cross-checking.

As far as Mathematics is concerned, candidates ought to bear in mind that this subject though dicey yet the most interesting and scoring which eventually plays pivotal role is not only enlisting you in JEE but also steering you in top slots. Therefore, students should maintain high level of concentration while preparing & writing Maths paper.

As per general perception, Physics seems difficult but you can make it easy by resorting to specific strategy. If you analyze the trend of questions, you will find that maximum questions are from class XI Physics syllabus. So, it is wise to brush up this portion as it turns score differentiator. Before the D-day of exam, revise the solved examples portion-wise because by doing so you will get a recap of the entire functional concepts involved in solutions which will save your time too.

Similarly, Chemistry has been also the most scoring subject if you prepare and solve the questions intelligently. To finish the paper in time, attempt the theoretical questions first and then move on to the numerical portion and organic reactions. This will help you maximize your score.

Biology is very interesting subject as compared to Physics and Chemistry. Students who do more & more practice and try to concentrate fully on study will be successful in exam.

Preparatory Tips for Aspirants
Keep yourself updated with changed Pattern: Always remember that you must prepare keeping in mind the exam notification, syllabus, patterns and importance of chapters so you can pay special attention to topics of utmost importance.
Refer to NCERT Textbooks: Treat NCERT textbooks as a bible. Going through the concepts and key points of this textbook makes for a strong foundation for entrance exams. Several illustrated examples are very well explained to clear all doubts.
Be well-versed with Subjects: Keep a track of all the topics in the respective subjects, as there are certain topics that make for an entire subject. It is essential to pay equal weight-age to Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics as the exam constitutes questions based on the same.
Don’t touch any new topic: This is the time to revise and go through already prepared topics. Taking up new topics will only lead to a panicky situation. It is advisable to be thorough with whatever you know than skim through new concepts and chapters.
Mock Test papers: Run through last five years’ Mock Test papers of AIPMT/JEE. This will help you understand the pattern and complexity of an entrance paper. A student should have taken at least 15 full length tests before taking the actual exam.
Rest & Relax:  Taking too much stress and getting tense by uneasy situations is not desirable. It is good to take some time off and do things that rejuvenate you and keep your mind cool.
Success at AIPMT/JEE largely depends upon your hard work, patience, confidence and conceptual clarity. If you want to be winner in this exam, don’t lose your patience and be confident as this exam is similar to other several exams you have appeared so far. You have done your bit whatever you were supposed to do.

No need to worry! Now, this is high time to boost your confidence. Keep yourself focused and appear at the exam with positive attitude speculating that you are going to hit the jackpot. If your mind conceives you can, you are certainly going to crack the entrance exam.

All the Best!
