AIIMS - 2017 MBBS Entrance Exam



The dreams of Jawaharlal Nehru and Amrit Kaur and the recommendations of the Bhore Committee converged to create a proposal which found favor with a generous grant from New Zealand under the Colombo Plan made it possible to lay the foundation stone of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in 1952. The AIIMS was finally created in 1956, as an autonomous institution through an Act of Parliament. The institute aims at providing high standard of medical education and is an institution of national importance.

Eligibility Criteria
1. Nationality: He/ She should be a Citizen of India.
2. Age: The candidate should have attained the age of 17 (seventeen) years as on 31st December of the year of admission and above.
3. Qualifying Exam: Candidates should have passed 12th Class examination under 10+2 Scheme/ Senior School Certificate Exam(SSCE) or Intermediate Science (I.Sc.) or an equivalent examination of a recognized University/ Board of any Indian State with ENGLISH, PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY and BIOLOGY as subject.
4. Subjects (aggregate): General and OBC candidates who have obtained a minimum of 60% marks and SC/ST/OPH candidates obtained a minimum of 50% marks in ENGLISH, PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY and BIOLOGY are eligible for AIIMS test.

Regarding: Registration, Payment and Choice of City

1.        Where can I get the prospectus of MBBS Online (CBT) Entrance Examination - 2017 for admission to AIIMS, New Delhi and Six Other AIIMS?
Answer: The prospectus is ONLY available on the AIIMS website http://www.aiimsexams.org.  No hard copies are available.

2.        How does one apply for the AIIMS MBBS Entrance Examination-2017?
Answer: The Application can ONLY be submitted online.
·           Before you proceed with the application process, please ensure that you have a valid Email ID and mobile number.
·           Visit the AIIMS website - www.aiimsexams.org
·           On the home page, click on ‘Academic Courses’ to select your desired course i.e. MBBS.
·           Click on ‘Prospectus’ to download it, and read the instructions & guidelines carefully before Registration.
·           Click on Registration/Login link displayed on the left side of the page and then on “Click Here” button in New Registration Section. Please read the instructions carefully and Click on “Proceed” Button.

Online Registration is a 6 STEP process

STEP-1 Registration
1.        Please register yourself by filling up the requisite information CAREFULLY. The responsibility of furnishing accurate information rests with the individual candidate, as all subsequent communication will be through your registered Email Id & Mobile Number.
2.        Furnish your name and other details as they appear in your class-X / school leaving certificate. Any discrepancy detected at any stage of the verification process is liable to result in the cancellation of your candidature for the examination/counseling/admission as the case may be.
3.        Click on Save & Proceed after filling up the information. The information, as entered by you, will appear on the screen. Please check it thoroughly, and in case any errors are detected, click on the Edit button and make the necessary corrections.
4.        A Candidate ID allotted to you will appear on screen. Please NOTE it down for future reference. The Candidate ID & Password will also be sent to your registered Email Id & Mobile Number.
5.        Upon receiving it, Login with the provided Candidate ID & Password and change the Password on the first time Login.
  View city choice – Candidate can check the seat availability before the payment.

STEP-2 Payment
Payment of the Registration Fee can ONLY be done online using a Debit/Credit Card or through Net Banking facility.

STEP-3 City Choice
Candidates can choose the city of their choice for the examination from the list provided. Once made, the choice of city cannot be changed. Real time status of seats available will be displayed city wise. Allotment of the city of choice is subject to the confirmation of payment of the registration fee.  Please note that in case last few seats are available in a particular city; it is possible that in some cases, during the time intervening between payment of fees and final choice of city, available seats in the city viewed earlier may be over and another city may have to be chosen.  It is recommended that you apply early and not wait till the last minute since seats may be limited in a particular city of your choice.

STEP-4 Qualification & Address Details
Furnish the required information regarding Qualifications & Address details in the Online Registration Form.

STEP-5 Upload Images
Candidates must take extreme care in uploading their Photographs and images. Once uploaded, they cannot be changed, unless found inappropriate and rejected by the AIIMS authorities.
Upload the images of your Photograph, Signature & Thumb Impression strictly as per instructions given in the Prospectus (images should be in one of the following formats jpg, png or gif)
In case, the images of Photograph, Signature and Thumb Impression to be uploaded are not available with you, Save & Exit and logout. You may login to complete the process later on, once the requisite items are with you, to complete the registration process.

STEP-6 Print Registration Form
The candidates are required to take a print-out of the duly completed registration form for future reference once they see that all the steps are ‘COMPLETE’ in Due Steps and the Navigations buttons appear Yellow in colour.

3.        Why does it take so long to provide the final status of my application?
Answer: Since some fields are editable till the last date of submission of registration form, the status can only be finalized after this period.

4.        How do I get a password for logging in?
Answer: A Candidate ID and Password will be sent to you on your registered email ID and mobile number. You are advised to remember the password and also retain a printout of your Registration form and admit card till completion of admission process. Forgotten password
In case you forget your Password, go to the ‘Forgot login details’ link on the login page and enter the following information to get Password:
·           Candidate ID or date of birth.
·           Registered Mobile number.
·           Registered Email ID.
 A Password will be sent on your registered email ID.

5.         I cannot login.  What should I do?
Answer: Any of the following may be the problems preventing you from login:
·           Incorrect User ID & Password: This occurs if the candidate ID and/or the password is incorrect. Your password is case sensitive, therefore use the correct password.  In case you have forgotten the password, use ‘forgot login details’ to get the password on your registered E-mail ID. Use the correct candidate ID and password for logging in.
·           Internet Browser Problem: Please read the User manual for candidates. Follow the instructions about using internet browser (Internet Explorer-7 or higher version, Firefox 3.5 or higher version) and the latest version of Google Chrome.
·           Internet connection Interrupted: Your internet connection should be uninterrupted. If internet interruption takes place, the IP address which is being monitored will change and a ‘Your session has expired’ message will be displayed. Please try to login from another computer from which other candidate(s) have logged in successfully.

6.         Do I have to indicate choice of AIIMS (i.e. AIIMS New Delhi, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur or Rishikesh) during Online Registration?
Answer: Yes

7.         Can the names and other details be changed?
Answer: The following information furnished by the candidate CANNOT be changed after PAYMENT of registration fees:
·           Candidate’s name
·           DOB (Date of birth)
·           Category
·           OPH status
·           E-mail Id
·           Mobile number
 All the other details can be edited till the last date of registration.

8.         Can I register after the last date?
Answer: No, you cannot register after the deadline for registration has expired. No communication regarding requests for registration after the last date and time will be entertained. It is your responsibility to register well in time and avoid the last minute rush.

9.         Can I modify my choices of City/Centre of Examination after completion of last date?
Answer: No, the city/centre of examination once chosen and allotted will not be changed and no requests in this regard will be entertained.

10.      What are the instructions regarding OBC, SC, ST and PH certificates?
Answer: Please read Instructions given in the Prospectus regarding the above mentioned certificates carefully. The requirements/formats are clearly mentioned therein. Certificates as mentioned in the prospectus ONLY will be considered/accepted. In case candidates fail to produce the certificates (as per instructions provided), at time of Counseling, then they will not be permitted to participate in the Counseling.
PH Criteria – Candidates must possess a valid document certifying their physical disability conforming to judgment of Supreme Court of India i.e.
·           With the approval of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India vide letter no. 18018/2/2009-ME (P-1) dated 17.02.2009 it has been decided that while providing reservation in admission to medical course in the first instance candidates with disability of lower limbs between 50% to 70% shall be considered and in case candidates are not available of such candidates in that category then the candidates with disability of lower limbs between 40% to 50% will also be considered,
·           The disability certificate should be provided by a duly constituted and authorized Medical Board of the State or Central Govt. Hospitals/Institutions.

11.    How can I communicate through Email with the Examination Section, AIIMS?
Answer: You can communicate with the Examination Section, AIIMS using your Registered e-mail ID only. The email address of the examination section being - exams.ac@gmail.com

12.    What are the documents required to be uploaded with my application?
Answer: No documents are required to be uploaded during the Online Registration /Application process, but you have to UPLOAD images of your Photograph, left thumb impression and signature at the time of registration.

13.     How can I know about confirmation of payment before opting of city choice?
Answer: If you have submitted the payment but did not succeed after about a minute, you will find a Pop-up Message.  Accordingly, click the OK Button and check the status of Transaction.  If Payment is “Successful” proceed to Step-3 (City Choice) and in the case of “Failed Transaction” you will have to make payment again and earlier payment made will directly be refunded in your account.
Regarding: Counselling

14.     When will the counselling for allotment of Seats be conducted?
Answer: The Schedule of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Open Counseling (if necessary) is given under ‘At a Glance ‘in the Prospectus. They are as under:
1st counseling:          3rd to 6th July 2017
2nd counseling:         3rd August 2017
3rd counseling:          4th September 2017
Open counseling:     27th September 2017

15.     What are the required documents that I should bring at the time of counselling?
Answer: You are required to bring the following DOCUMENTS IN ORIGINAL at time of counselling:
1.        Admit Card issued by AIIMS
2.        Rank letter issued by AIIMS
3.        High School/Higher Secondary Certificate/Birth Certificate as a proof of date of Birth
4.        Certificate & Mark-sheet of Secondary Class mentioning DOB/Certificate
5.        Marks Sheet of Sr. Secondary Class (12th Class)
You should also bring the following certificates, if applicable in your case:
·           SC/ST Certificate issued by the competent authority (in the format as specified in the prospectus) in English or Hindi language. Sub caste should be clearly mentioned in the certificate.
·           OBC certificate issued by the competent authority. The OBC Certificate should be valid for Central Government Institutions/Jobs. (OBC candidates belonging to the Creamy Layer shall not be eligible for reserved seats). The OBC certificate must being the format as mentioned in the Prospectus.
·           Orthopedic Physical Disability Certificate issued by a duly constituted and authorized Medical Boards. PH certificate issued by any other Authority / Hospital will NOT be entertained.

16.     How many candidates will be called for 1st Round of counselling?
Answer: In each category i.e. UR, OBC, SC and ST, the total number of candidates to be called for counselling will be four (4) times the number of seats available in each category.

17.     What is the process of 2nd Round of counselling?
Answer: The 2nd Round of counselling is for the allotment of vacant seats available after the 1st Round of counselling, and for the change of Institute allotted in the 1st round of counselling.

18.    Are the Original Certificates/documents required during 2nd Round of counselling?
Answer: Yes, candidates have to furnish original Certificates and documents that were produced during the 1stround of Counselling. Candidates who have been allotted seats in the1stround of counselling must bring the certificate of depositing documents during the 2nd round of counselling.

19.    Who are eligible for 2nd Round of allotment?
Answer: The candidates who appear before the counselling committee in the 1st round of counselling on being called on their turn for the allotment of seats will be eligible for the 2nd round of counselling.
All the remaining candidates who could not be called by the counselling committee after the last rank on which the seat was allotted in the 1st round of counselling, after the allotment of all available seats by the counselling committee is over, will be deemed present and will be eligible for further rounds of counseling.

20.    Who are not eligible for 2nd Round of allotment?
Answer: Those candidates who fail to appear before the counselling committee in the 1st round of counselling, on being called on their turn for allotment of seats, will be marked absent. They will not be eligible for the 2nd round of counselling. However they will be eligible for open round of counselling.

21.    What is the process of the 3rd Round of counselling?
Answer: The 3rd round of counselling is for the allotment of vacant seats available after the 2nd round of counselling to candidates in order of selection merit.

22.    Who are eligible for 3rd Round of counselling?
Answer: Candidates who appeared before the counselling committee in the 2nd round of counselling on being called on their turn for the allotment of seats will be eligible for the 3rd round of counselling.
All the remaining candidates who could not be called by the counselling committee after the last rank on which the seat was allotted in the 2ndround of counselling, after the allotment of all available seats by the counselling committee is over, will be deemed present and will be eligible for the 3rdround of counseling.

23.    Are the Original Certificates/documents also required during 3rd Round of counselling?
Answer: Yes, you are required to bring along all required certificates / documents in original.

24.    If I opt to participate in 3rd Round of counselling, will my allotted seat (of 1st/2nd Round) be cancelled?
Answer: In case you have not been allotted a seat in the 3rdround of counselling, you will retain the seat that was allotted to you in the earlier round. However, on allotment of a seat in 3rdround of counselling, the seat that was allotted to you in the earlier round will automatically be cancelled and available for allotment to another candidate.

25.    Who can participate in open counselling?
Answer: All the candidates in the selection merit with qualifying marks in the entrance examination (i.e. UR/OBC 50%, OBC 45% and SC/ST 40%) will be eligible for allotment of vacant seat/s, if any. In the Open round of counselling, however, no change of Institution will be permitted.

26.    Can a candidate who had opted for a seat in one of the AIIMS change it later?
Answer: A candidate who had opted for a seat in one of the AIIMS in the 1st& 2nd rounds of counselling is eligible for change the Institution in the subsequent rounds of counselling. No change, however, is allowed in the Open round of counselling.

27.    Where will the counselling be held?
Answer: The counselling for AIIMS, New Delhi and Six other AIIMS will be held in the Jawahar Lal Nehru Auditorium (JLNA), AIIMS, New Delhi, on the dates mentioned in the Prospectus and also mentioned above.

28.    How can I get my Rank Letter for participation in counselling?
Answer: You can download your Rank Letter which states the date, time and venue of the counselling by visiting the website www.aiimsexams.org and login to the desired course.

29.    Will I require Original documents to get the admission at the allotted college?
Answer: Yes, you will require original certificates/documents to get admission at the allotted college. No candidate is allowed to participate in the counselling and admission processes without their original certificates / documents.

30.    Can I get admission on the basis of production of a receipt stating that my original documents/Certificates are deposited with another College/University?
Answer: No, under no circumstances will you be eligible for admission on the basis of production of a receipt stating that your original documents/Certificates are deposited with another College/University.

31.    How much time will I be given to join the allotted course?
Answer: For AIIMS, New Delhi, you will be required to join the course within stipulated time as mentioned in the Prospectus. For the other Six AIIMS, you are advised to check the details on their respective websites.

32.    If I am called for counselling, will I definitely get admission in any of the AIIMS?
Answer: No. Issuance of a call letter to appear for counselling does not guarantee you admission or allotment of a seat in the MBBS Course at AIIMS, New Delhi or any of the other six AIIMS.
The attendance of the candidate appearing in the counselling will be their appearance before the counselling committee for the purpose for allotment of seats and not their appearance for verification of documents.

33.    Will I be called before the counselling committee if I get a call letter or if I am eligible for counselling?
Answer: For counselling, you will be called by the counselling committee ONLY till the last seat is allotted.  After allotment of all the seats, no candidate will be called for counselling.

34.    If my documents are verified and found to be in order before the counselling, does it guarantee a seat in the MBBS course of any of the AIIMS?
Answer: No. The mere verification of your documents before the counselling does not guarantee you a seat in the MBBS course at AIIMS, New Delhi or any of the other six AIIMS.

35.    Is it possible that my documents are not verified even if I have been called for counselling?
Answer: Yes. Your documents may not be verified even if you have been called for counselling, if all the available seats have been filled up/allotted.

36.    In case I have submitted my original documents to another medical college upon getting admitted there and also get called for counselling at AIIMS, will I be permitted to produce my original certificates at a later date after being allotted a seat in AIIMS, New Delhi or any of the other six AIIMS during the counselling if I plan to go back and resign from the college and bring my certificates?
Answer: If you have got admission to any other medical college/Institution, you are required to surrender that seat and produce a letter to this effect from the concerned institution. In case you fail to produce this certificate, you will NOT be eligible for allotment of seat at the AIIMS counselling. All the certificates/documents, in original as listed elsewhere above must be produced at the time of counselling to the counselling committee, if asked for. In case you fail to do so, you will NOT be allotted a seat and the seat will automatically be allotted to next candidate in order of merit. You will, however, be marked present and will be eligible for the next round of counselling if applicable.   

37.    In case I do not have Birth Certificate/Caste Certificate/other certificate(s) in English or Hindi but they are in a regional language, will it be acceptable for counselling/admission?
Answer: Certificates issued by the competent authorities should be in English or Hindi language. In case your certificates are in a regional language, you are advised to carry a Certified True Copy of the original (regional language) certificate, translated into English/Hindi language, and also bring the original certificate in regional language at the time of counselling/admission.

38.    Where can I know about the fee structure / course duration etc. for MBBS Course?
Answer: All the information regarding the fee structure, MBBS course duration etc., of AIIMS, New Delhi is given in the Prospectus. For the Six other AIIMS, you are advised to visit their respective websites and go through the ‘At a Glance’ section for this purpose.
