What is NEET (UG)?
NEET-UG stands
for National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for Under Graduate Courses. A Common Entrance Test (CET) is conducted
by the Central Board of Secondary Education, (CBSE), Delhi, for MBBS
/ BDS Course across the country. This test is conducted for almost all
Government and Private Medical Colleges / Universities of India. Admissions in
All Medical / Dental Colleges are performed through this test, which have been
approved by the Medical Council of India / Dental Council of India that fall
under the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Total of 271 MBBS colleges (138 Govt. colleges + 133 Private colleges) have
been listed by MCI. These colleges
shall offer a total of approx 31000 MBBS Seats across India. NEET
is supposed to be conducted in the month of May every year of examination. And,
the application form is supposed to be available tentatively in the 2nd week of November. A
candidate can apply online only.

NEET UG – Mode of Payment & Submission of Application Form:
1. Candidates
can apply only ONLINE.
- Online submission of
application may be made by accessing the Board’s website
www.cbseneet.nic.in. The duration of submission of application form,
without late fee and with late fees is given in FEE DETAILS/LAST DATE.
Instructions for submitting online application, payment of fee and
computer generated printout to be sent to CBSE are available on website.
- Candidates may remit the fee
in the following manner:

Through Debit/Credit Card/Internet Banking using
on-line gateway payment facility, or
·
Depositing in CBSE Bank Account with Canara Bank
or Syndicate Bank directly or depositing in CBSE Account with e-Post Office by downloading the
Challan Form from the website of www.cbseneet.nic.in.
Please ensure before mailing the print out of the Confirmation Page of online application form that
The
applicant has signed the Form at specified place and affixed left hand thumb
impression. The application bears the signature of Parent/Guardian. The
application has been authenticated/signed by the Head of the Institution/Gazetted
Officer. The two similar good quality colour photographs (recent) with white
background have been duly pasted in the space earmarked for it. Application form
number & candidate name must have been written on the back of both the
photographs.

NEET UG – Pattern of Examination:
1.
NEET UG Ent. Exam paper containing 180 objective
questions.
2.
Each
section of Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology consists of 45 questions.
3.
Every question has four options with single correct answer.
4.
Maximum time for Test is 3 hours with 1/4th
negative marking.
5. More than one answer indicated a question will be
deemed as incorrect response and will be negatively marked.
6.
Candidates can opt for Question Paper either in English or in Hindi.
7. Candidates of State Boards of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal
seeking admission under State Quota seats only can opt for Question Paper in
their respective Regional Language.
NEET UG – Eligibility Criteria:
1.
Minimum age should be 17 years at the time of
admission or will complete the age on or before 31st December of the
year of his/her admission to the MBBS course and is an Indian National.
2.
The upper age limit for NEET is 25 years as on 31st December, which shall be relaxed by
a period of 5 years for SC/ST/OBC
category.
3.
Students must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks for General category (GC),
45% marks for Gen-PH and 40% marks for SC/ST/OBC or
SC/ST/OBC-PH category in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology
taken together in qualifying examinations.
4.
Students must pass Physics, Chemistry,
Biology/Biotechnology (including practical test) or any other elective subject
with English.
5.
A student must
score minimum of 50th percentile for GC, 45th
percentile for GC-PH, 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC in
NEET to ensure that no seat remains unfilled. Percentile will be calculated based on rank of the student in
his/her Exam.
6.
The percentile shall be determined on the basis of
highest marks secured in All India
common merit list in NEET for admission to MBBS course.
7.
No state eligibility criteria will be applicable for the students, who take admission under 15%
All India Quota Scheme.
8.
A candidate can
attempt maximum of three times.
NEET UG – Merit List & Rankings:
1.
NEET body shall provide All India as well as State wise merit list
of the eligible candidates on the marks obtained in the NEET.
2.
National Rank: A student can use National Rank
to take admission in any of the NEET affiliated MBBS colleges in India.
3.
State Rank: A student can use State Rank to take
admission in any of the affiliated colleges in the state from where he/she has
done class XI & XII or holds a domicile.
4. The NEET guidelines require that 85% of the MBBS seats in the medical colleges across the state be
reserved under the state quota. The remaining 15% remain open to candidates from other states.
5. Admission
to AFMC, Pune: The List of Successful Candidates opted for
AFMC shall be forwarded to the Directorate General of Armed Force Medical
Service, Ministry of Defence, Government of India for Second Stage Screening
and Counselling. Candidates are advised to contact AFMC for further details.
NEET UG – Reservation Policy:
1. 15% seats are reserved for SC candidates.
2. 7.5% seats are reserved for ST candidates.
3. 27% seats are reserved for non-creamy layer
OBC candidates.
4. 3% seats are reserved for PH candidates.
5. Admission under 85% state quota seats in
Govt. medical colleges shall be subject to reservation policy and eligibility
criteria prevailing in the State/Union Territory as notified by the respective
State/UT from time to time.
NEET UG – State Code of Eligibility:
Candidates may choose State Code(s) on the basis of
his/her eligibility to claim seats under State Quota in any State. Candidate’s
rank in the merit list for 85% State Quota seats will be generated on the basis
of the State Code of Eligibility
filled in by the Candidates in the application form.
NEET UG – Important Information:
Admit Card, Card
Board/Clip Board, Post Card size Photograph and Blue/Black Ball Point Pen of
good quality for Writing of particulars on the Test Booklet and responses on
the Answer Sheet to be brought on the day of examination. The candidate will
not do any rough work or put any stray mark on the machine gradable Answer
Sheet except in the Test Booklet only. For the purpose of evaluation, the Test
Booklet code as printed in the Answer Sheet on side-2 will be accepted as
final. Application Forms after last date will not be accepted irrespective of
the date of booking. Students from the States of Andhra Pradesh and J & K
are NOT ELIGIBLE for 15% all India quota seats as both these States had opted
out of All India Scheme since its inception. If they claim eligibility, they
must submit an affidavit, in original on non-judicial Stamp Paper of Rs 10/-
duly sworn in before and attested by a Metropolitan Magistrate/First Class
Judicial Magistrate.
Benefits of NEET:
NEET is the one common
examination for admission into almost all of the MBBS colleges
in India. The students will be free and
relaxed after appearing in only one exam. Stress-level will be considerably reduced. It compact financial burden of
the parents. NEET will avoid unnecessary wastage of time, effort &
money. Since the admission criteria does not include Board marks (apart from
minimum eligibility), a student must prepare
in a focused manner for NEET. The new syllabus will establish uniformity across the
country because syllabus for NEET (UG) has
been achieved after review of
various State syllabi as well as those prepared by CBSE, NCERT and COBSE.

Note: Among the registered candidates,
a total of 7,17,127 candidates were eligible to appear in the NEET UG - 2013,
out of which 6,58,040 candidates appeared in the test and 3,66,317 candidates
have qualified the test.
