About Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (University):
The
Amrita School of Medicine was founded in 2002 by Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi,
Amma. As a world-renowned humanitarian and spiritual leader, Amma's life
exemplifies compassion and service in every action. Amma is the Chancellor of
the university and the School of Medicine draws its inspiration from her.
The
MBBS degree is a five and a half year program in Medicine, including a one year
internship. The curriculum is based on the directives of the Medical Council of
India. Clinical exposure begins in the second year, with classes conducted by
clinical specialists emphasizing the relevance of basic sciences to clinical
practices. Hospital postings and field visits to public health centers aim at
providing exposure to the students about different scenarios in which doctors
in India find themselves, so that the best care is provided in all the
circumstances.
The
first Amrita institute for higher learning was founded in 1994. Today that
institute is one among its many Schools spread over five campuses. Several notable milestones have defined this growth of
the university to the multi-campus, multi-disciplinary center of learning. Amrita
Vishwa Vidyapeetham is a University established under section 3 of the UGC Act
1956. The Mata Amritanandamayi Math is the
parent organization of Amrita University.
