JEE (Joint Entrance
Examination)
The
new pattern of JEE aims to create an umbrella through single combined entrance
exam for the admission to over 2500 Engineering Colleges (Govt. + Private) in
the country. It minimizes over 50 different Engineering Entrance Exams to one.
JEE
body has decided to commence a Joint Entrance Examination from the year 2013
for admission to the undergraduate programs in Engineering in two phases, i.e.
JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced). The first 1, 50,000 candidates (including all
categories) based on their performance in JEE (Main) will qualify to appear in
JEE (Advanced) examination. Admissions to IITs will be based on category-wise
All India Rank (AIR) in JEE (Advanced) subject to conditions that such
candidates are in the top 20 percentile categories. Admission to NITs will be
based on 40 % weightage of the performance in Class XII board marks
(normalized) and the remainder 60 % weightage would be given to performance in
JEE (Main) and a combined All India Rank (AIR) would be decided accordingly.
The normalized Qualifying examination marks will be based
on the position of the candidate in the Board (i.e. his/her percentile score).
The percentile score a candidate gets in his/her board will mainly contribute
to his/her normalized marks. The weightage of normalized qualifying examination
marks is only for deciding ranking of JEE (Main) which will be used for
admission to all Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs)/ NITs/IIITs
but excluding IITs.
If
a State seeks to admit students in the Engineering Colleges affiliated to that
State Universities then that State requires separate merit list to be provided
based on relative weightage adopted by the states, then the merit list shall be
prepared with such relative weightage as may be indicated by the State. The
examination will be conducted in the Regional Languages of the State(s) on the
requests of such State(s).

Benefits of JEE
JEE
conducts a single entrance exam for all engineering aspirants in India to take
admission into the Engineering/ Science institutions. No need to apply for
several entrance exams. The students will be free and relaxed after appearing
in a single exam. Owing to this, stress-level will be considerably reduced.
Avoid multiple exams which pose the challenge of preparing for different
syllabi and patterns. It is a substantial financial savings for parents. A
simultaneous preparation of School/ Board examinations and JEE will yield
better results. Introduction of JEE eliminates unnecessary wastage of time,
efforts & money.

Eligibility
Criteria for JEE
·
Candidates
of GEN and OBC-NCL categories must have completed 17 years at the time of
admission and should be an Indian National.
·
The
upper age limit for JEE (Advanced) is 25 years for GE and OBC-NCL categories
and this upper age limit shall be relaxed by a period of 5 years for SC, ST and
PwD categories.
·
In
addition to JEE score, the qualifying examination is Class-XII from any
National/State or ‘Approved’ International Board.
a.
For
NITs, IIITs or CFTIs, normalized marks of XII board are considered and
eligibility is also the same as earlier, which is a minimum 60% mark in PCM in
XII board.
b.
For
IITs & ISM-Dhanbad, the student must be in Top 20 percentile in their
Class-XII board.
c. Marks
of 5 subjects will be considered for calculation of percentile and
normalization of qualifying examination marks for paper 1(B.E./B. Tech.): 1-Language,
2-Physics, 3-Mathematics, 4-Any one of (Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology,
Technical Vocational Subject), 5-Any other subject.

Those
appearing in (10+2) final or equivalent examination may also appear in JEE
(Main) in the following year provisionally.

However,
admission criteria in the concerned Institution / University will be followed
as prescribed by the concerned University/ Institution and as per the
guidelines & criteria prescribed by the AICTE.

Maximum
number of attempts a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be three and for
JEE (Advanced), two uniformly in consecutive years.
State Code of
Eligibility
It
means the Code of the State from where a candidate has passed (10+2)
examination by virtue of which he/she becomes eligible to appear in the JEE
(Main) for admission to B.E. / B. Tech and B. Arch/ B. Planning Courses of the
institutions/ Colleges of the States/UT. The list of state code eligibility is
given on JEE (Main) website: www.jeemain.nic.in
Test Pattern of JEE
The admission to the undergraduate programmes at the JEE
(Main & Advanced) is based on a two-tier test. The
first test is called the JEE (Main) for NITs
& IIITs shall be held during the month of April (both offline and
online) conducted by CBSE/ MHRD. The second test, JEE (Advanced) for IITs & ISM-Dhanbad shall be held in the
month of May (only offline) which is conducted by the IITs/ JEE body.
Exam
Structure of JEE (Main)-2015
The
JEE (Main) exam consists of two papers; Paper-1 for B.E. / B.Tech & Paper-2
for B. Arch/ B. Planning aspirants. Paper-1 contains a total of 90 Multiple
Choice Objective Type Questions with equal weightage to Physics, Chemistry and
Mathematics. Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks whereas each incorrect
answer will be awarded 1/4th negative marks. Maximum marks are 360. Duration of
Paper is 3 hours. Mode of the test is both offline and online for Paper-1 and
only offline for Paper-2. Question papers are provided in both English and
Hindi medium.

Exam Structure of JEE (Advanced)-2015
The
JEE (Advanced) consists of two objective type papers i.e., Paper-1 &
Paper-2. Each Paper consists of three parts – Physics, Chemistry and
Mathematics with 3 separate sections i.e., Section-1, 2 & 3. Each paper
contains total 60 questions consisting of 20 questions in each subject. The
maximum marks are 264 comprising of 88 marks for each subject in Paper-1 and
240 comprising of 80 marks for each subject in Paper-2. Duration of each paper
is 3 hours. In some Sections, incorrect answers will be awarded negative marks.
Question papers are provided in both English and Hindi Medium.
