JEE (Main) 2014 Statistics: Declining Numbers

As per Joint Apex Board of CBSE- the conducting body of JEE Main, the number of students registered for JEE Main this year is 13,56,805 as compared to around 14.62 lakh last year, a decline of nearly 10% in the number of applicants appearing for the exam this year. 

Revealing the gender divide among the students who are scheduled to take the exam, CBSE officials said that three-fourth of the total candidates are males. “Out of the total applicants for JEE Main 2014, around 74% are male candidates and only 26% candidates are females,” they said.

According to CBSE, the top three states with maximum number of applications are Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Leading the chart of highest number of candidates is Maharashtra where 2,45,582 applicants have registered for JEE Main 2014. Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh are on the second and third place with 1,58,451 and 1,22,863 registered candidates respectively.

Andhra Pradesh again bagged the top position in the country in the JEE (Main) exam, with Pramod Vakacharla scoring 355 of a total 360. Last year too, 16-year-old M Viswa Virinchi, a resident of Kukatpally in city, secured the first rank with 345 marks.
