JEE (Joint Entrance Examination)

The new pattern of JEE aims to create an umbrella through single combined entrance exam for the admission to over 2500 Engineering Colleges (Govt. + Private) in the country. It minimizes over 50 different Engineering Entrance Exams to one. The JEE body has decided to commence a Joint Entrance Examination from the year 2013 for admission to the undergraduate programs in Engineering in two phases, i.e. JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced).

All the candidates aspiring to take admission in the undergraduate programmes at IITs and ISM Dhanbad for the year 2017 will have to appear in the Paper 1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main)-2017. Based on the performance in Paper 1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main)-2017, top 220000 candidates (including all categories) will be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced)-2017.

Admissions to IITs will be based on category-wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE (Advanced) subject to conditions that such candidates are in the top 20 percentile categories. Admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating through Central Seat Allocation Board will be based on All India Rank subject to the condition that the candidate should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST candidates the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.

The normalized Qualifying examination marks will be based on the position of the candidate in the Board (i.e. his/her percentile score). The percentile score a candidate gets in his/her board will mainly contribute to his/her normalized marks. The weightage of normalized qualifying examination marks is only for deciding ranking of JEE (Main) which will be used for admission to all Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs)/ NITs/IIITs but excluding IITs.

In 2015-16, State Governments voluntarily participating in the JEE (Main) system for admission in the B.Tech/B.E. courses are Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Odisha, Haryana, Punjab and Uttarakhand. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State Level Examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main) application form online.

Benefits of JEE
JEE now is a single entrance exam for all engineering aspirants in India to take admission into the Engineering/ Science institutions. There is no need to apply for several entrance exams. The students will now be free and relaxed after appearing in a single exam. This will considerably reduced stress-level and the student will be able to avoid the multiple exams which posed the challenge of preparing for different syllabi and patterns. It is also a substantial financial savings for parents. A simultaneous preparation of School/ Board examinations and JEE will yield better results. Introduction of JEE, thus eliminates the unnecessary wastage of time, effort & money.

Institutes Participating under JEE and their Number of Seats
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2016 has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to manage and regulate the joint seat allocation for admissions to 92 institutes for the academic year 2016-17. This includes 22 IITs, ISM, 31 NITs, 20 IIITs and 18 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). Admission to all the academic programs offered by these Institutes will be made through a single platform.
·         22 - IITs + ISM, Dhanbad (4-New IITs : Chhattisgarh, Goa, Jammu and Karnataka) = 10,500 Plus Seats
·         31- National Institutes of Technology (NITs) = 20,000 Plus Seats
·         20- Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) = 2500 Plus Seats
·         18 - Other Government Funded Technical Institutes (100-ISITs + 1000-GFTIs) = 5000 Plus Seats
·         6 - Indian Institutes of Science Education & Research (IISERs) +1- Indian Institute of Science (IISc) = 2500 Plus Seats
·         1- Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology (IIST) + 3 - Indian Statistical Institutes (ISIs) = 500 Plus Seats
·         1000 - State Level Colleges (PETs) = 5 Lac plus Seats

·         Overall 2500 Institutes participate for 5.5 Lac seats through JEE

Test Pattern of JEE
